Mother commits suicide after daughter shunned her in Lagos

A woman committed suicide by jumping in a well because her daughter shunned her .The 55-year-old mother of five, Amoke Adeko, jumped into a well in front of her residence at Ajilekege Street, Pipeline bus stop, Idimu, Lagos State. She was recovered dead at about 11pm by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service .

It was learnt that she had been traumatised after her husband died eight months ago.Her grandson was said to be marking his birthday in the Igando area on the fateful day.

A resident told PUNCH Metro that Adeko’s daughter, Amirat, the mother of the birthday boy, had brought a package of food prepared during the ceremony for her mother. It was said that Amirat, however, refused to give the woman the package in person, but sent someone else to take the food to her.

It was learnt that Adeko took the action as being shunned by her daughter and decided to end her life.
The resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said,

“The woman had not been herself since her husband died. Amirat brought the food for her that afternoon, but she avoided her and sent it through someone elese.

“I don’t know why she did that, but the mother felt embarrassed because she saw her daughter from afar. It was around 5pm. About two hours later, she jumped into the well.”

Our correspondent learnt that a neighbour, who heard a sudden thud, rushed to the well and saw Adeko’s slippers beside it. He was said to have raised the alarm after he went to her room and looked round the compound but did not find her.

Adeko’s first son, Ahmed, said he was not aware that Amirat shunned their mother, adding that she usually visited him and his siblings.
He said,

“She used to come to my place; spend some weeks and visit my sister too. This is her husband’s house and we can’t say she should leave. Before the incident happened, she had been with my sister for some weeks. We took her to her church and after some prayers, we decided that she should go back home. That we don’t come here always does not mean we abandoned her. My dad died eight months ago; we did not abandon her.

“I don’t know what led to the incident but she was not traumatised. That day, my sister was marking her son’s birthday and I sent her to bring food for mum. She brought the food around 2pm. It was around 5.30pm that a resident called to inform me about the incident. She (Amirat) is not around now but she did not tell me that she gave the food to somebody else to deliver to her. What she told me was that she met her upstairs.”

A friend of the deceased, Grace Agboyin, while lamenting her death, said she was the one that used to look after her.
Agboyin, who spoke in Yoruba, said,

“We were very close. Since the trauma became serious, I always went to her shop to chat with her. I ensured that she ate and used her drugs regularly. She had grown lean since her husband died because his death really touched her. She used to visit her children.

“I was in my shop when I heard people shouting that Iya Ahmed (Adeko) had jumped into the well. I was very surprised.”

Why I raped my friend’s teenage daughter – UNILAG lecturer

For nine days, Shola (not real name) was in pain. The abdominal pain she endured felt as if a knife got stuck in her, she told Saturday PUNCH.

Punch reported that she was scared but she had no choice but to endure the pain since she couldn’t imagine telling her parents the unimaginable trauma she had been subjected to that led to the pains she was going through.

“How could I face them? How could I tell them that the man they handed me over to, to help process my admission, had raped me?” Shola said.

But then, much as she tried, she couldn’t continue hiding her ordeal, especially when the pains had become unbearable. Shola’s parents eventually got to know what their daughter had passed through in the quest of trying to become an undergraduate.

Eighteen-year-old Shola is one of the numerous hopeful candidates, wishing to secure admission into the University of Lagos. But her score of 211 in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination fell short of the requirement for Mass Communication, which was her choice.

Her father, who resided in Abesan Estate in Ipaja area of Lagos, had done all he could to ensure that her daughter would become a university student this year but all his efforts seemed to be futile.

“Someone told me to send her UTME registration number. He checked on the university website and said she was not eligible. Not convinced, I went to the school myself to check and it was the same problem.

“I had to start making calls to other universities where she could secure admission and someone told me she they could be helped to gain admission into the Olabisi Onabanjo University with that score.

“As soon as the UTME result was released around May, I informed a friend of mine who lives within the estate, who is a lecturer at UNILAG. I took my daughter to him and he promised that when it was time for the post-UTME examination, he would help her out with the process.”

The friend Shola’s father mentioned is Dr. Akin Baruwa, a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, UNILAG, who is also a chairman of one of the community development committees of Abesan Estate.

Shola’s father explained that when she realised that her result was not being accepted as eligible for Mass Communication, he went back to Baruwa on July 22, 2015 and the lecturer told him to bring his daughter the following morning so he could take her to campus and see how he could help.

“He said they had to take off very early the following morning. I did not suspect anything unusual about that timing because I trusted him. By 4am, I roused my daughter. We prepared and I took her to Baruwa’s house. I did not opt to follow them because I trusted him. I did not imagine that anything untoward could happen,” he said.

Baruwa and Shola took off from Abesan about 5am. She would later return home by 11am. His daughter was noticeably moody as she came home. Two hours earlier, Baruwa had called the father and told him that he had done all he could but that it did not seem her admission would be possible.

“When he told me that, I believed he had done all he could and told my daughter to come back home,” he said.

But it was not the same Shola that home that came back. She was moody and noticeably quiet. She went straight to her room and locked the door.

In company with child rights activist, Mrs. Esther Ogwu, whom the case was reported to by the family, our correspondent spoke with Shola in private to give details of what actually happened in Baruwa’s office that day.

It was obvious the girl was trying hard to stay composed. While she spoke, her right hand would go to her lower abdomen occasionally. When asked about it, she explained that she was still feeling some pain, which had reduced a lot since she got treatment.

Shola said on Thursday, July 23, 2015, as her father handed her over to the lecturer, she still did not suspect anything until they got to around Maryland.

“While I was inside the car, he started to touch my hair and rub my head. I was very surprised and I brushed off his hand. He never tried it again till we got to UNILAG,” Shola alleged.

According to her, while they were on the way, Baruwa was showing her different parts of town, telling her about places she did not know.

She alleged, “While we were on the way, he asked if I go out at all and I told him I don’t usually go out. And he would show me a place and say ‘This is Maryland o. You may not know since you don’t go out.’ Then he took me to the Yaba College of Technology. He drove inside and showed me the place. We later proceeded to UNILAG.

“When we got to his office, it was about 6.30am. The offices in the building were deserted. He said he liked to be early to avoid traffic. He told me to sit on the couch in his office.

“I noticed he was restless. He would stand and go outside sometimes. He asked if I wanted anything, I told him I was fine. He put on the television; I told him I was okay. He put on the air conditioner and I told him I did not want that.

“He had already heated water and made Coffee, which he offered to me. I told him I was okay and really did not need that. He then put the hot Coffee on the table. Later, out of respect, I took the cup and sipped a little. I started to feel drowsy not long after that. I did not know why.”

According to Shola’s narration, Baruwa later took her to see a female official in another building who examined her documents and explained further that there was little that could be done on her admission.

Baruwa reportedly said she might have to opt for diploma.

Shola claimed that when they went back to his office, the lecturer kept her document on his table.

She said, “He kept standing and moving around the office. Later, he went outside and when he came back inside, he locked the door and kept the key on his table. I did not know what was happening.

“A moment later, he told me to pick up a paper for him beside the couch. As I bent down to pick up the paper, he pushed me into a corner of the couch and held me down as he forcibly removed my trousers and underwear.”

Our correspondent asked at this point if Shola made any attempt to shout to alert anybody nearby.

She claimed that she actually screamed but that the way he held her down did not allow her voice to be as audible as she had wanted it to be.

Shola claimed, “If people were around the office, they would have heard me shout. He held me down, and pulled down my trousers and underwear. I screamed and begged him to leave me alone but he did not.

“After he had his way, he released me. As soon as I pulled up my trousers, I grabbed the keys to the door and rushed out while he was dressing up. He was walking behind me as I walked downstairs from his office. He said nothing as I walked away crying. He later went back.”

Shola’s father told our correspondent that he had been able to secure a place for her to write her post-UTME examination for an admission into OOU but the young girl has refused to go.

When our correspondent asked Shola why she refused to go, she said “How can I be sure that this same thing would not happen there? I don’t know anybody there. If it happens again, where would I run to?”

Our correspondent tracked down Dr. Baruwa a day after speaking with Shola and he gave his version of the encounter.

According to him, he indeed had a sexual encounter with Shola but it was “consensual.”

The lecturer, who seemed to be in his early 40s, told our correspondent that he made the mistake of not doing enough to resist the temptation of ‘sleeping’ with Shola.

Speaking with our correspondent in the front of his house out of earshot of his wife and two children, Dr. Baruwa said, “I swear to God that the girl agreed to everything that happened. She was a chatty girl, who did not show any shyness.

“It is true that I took her to YABATECH and showed her places. What is not true is that I deliberately took off from home because of any plan to do anything bad to her. I took off from home that early to avoid traffic.

“When she was in my office, she was the one telling me to be free with her. I realised that I needed to lie down a little and did not want my shirt to be rumpled. When I pulled it off, she even told me not to mind her presence that since it was my office, I could do whatever I wanted.

“When we first got to the office, she lay on my chest and was even playing with my manhood. That was why I could not resist it. After we came back from seeing the woman who was supposed to help with her admission, she was about to go when I told her to give me a hug. It was that which now led to the actual sexual encounter.

“When I realised that I could not resist her, I had to tell her to let me put on a condom. The truth is that, while I was putting on a condom, she stood by and waited. I did not actually penetrate. When she was saying ‘it’s enough, it’s enough’ and complaining that her tummy had started hurting her, I stopped.”

Baruwa explained that Shola’s father had sent a cryptic text message to him (days later when he learnt of what happened to his daughter), saying that he had learnt of what he did to his daughter.

“I know I betrayed his trust but nobody would understand it was consensual. I would have reached out to him to beg him if I think it would solve the problem,” he said.

When told that Shola went through more than a week of excruciating abdominal pain, Baruwa explained that if Shola left him the day of the encounter with any sign of hurt, he would have reached out to her to find out how she was doing.

Two days after our correspondent spoke with Baruwa, he was arrested by the police and the case is being investigated at the Isokoko Police Division, Agege, Lagos.

The case has also been reported at the Office of the Public Defender under the Lagos State Ministry of Justice. The Director of the OPD, Mrs. Omotola Rotimi, said the case would be followed to its logical conclusion.

Director of the Esther Child Rights Foundation, Esther Ogwu, a social worker handling the case, said when the case was first reported to her, the health of the girl was her immediate concern.

She said, “I had to refer them to the Mirabel Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Lagos so that she could get comprehensive treatment. This case is just another reason for girls and young women to be cautious of the issue of sexual assault.

“I believe this lecturer had been doing this in the past. It is necessary for girls to be aware and know what to do when in a potentially dangerous situation where they may be assaulted.

“I don’t expect him (the lecturer) to admit that he raped her. I knew he would say it was consensual, but I suspect that this is not the first time he would do such thing. Let the law take its course because we don’t know how many other girls are being saved because this case is coming out to the public.”

Baruwa was arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court, Lagos on Thursday. He has been remanded at the Kirikiri Prison.

Loan Tips For Students/Fresh Graduates

Whether you just graduated, are taking a break from school, or have already started repaying your student loans, these tips will help you keep your student loan debt under control. That means avoiding fees and extra interest costs, keeping your payments affordable, and protecting your credit rating. If you're having trouble finding a job or keeping up with your payments, there's important information here for you, too.

1. Know Your Loans: It's important to keep track of the lender, balance, and repayment status for each of your student loans. These details determine your options for loan repayment and forgiveness. If you're not sure, ask your lender or visit www.nslds.ed.gov. You can log in and see the loan amounts, lender(s), and repayment status for all of your federal loans. If some of your loans aren't listed, they're probably private (non-federal) loans.  For those, try to find a recent billing statement and/or the original paperwork that you signed. Contact your school if you can't locate any records.

2. Know Your Grace Period: Different loans have different grace periods. A grace period is how long you can wait after leaving school before you have to make your first payment. It's six months for federal Stafford loans, but nine months for federal Perkins loans. For federal PLUS loans, it depends on when they were issued (see details). The grace periods for private student loans vary, so consult your paperwork or contact your lender to find out. Don't miss your first payment!

3. Stay in Touch with Your Lender: Whenever you move or change your phone number or email address, tell your lender right away. If your lender needs to contact you and your information isn't current, it can end up costing you a bundle. Open and read every piece of mail - paper or electronic - that you receive about your student loans. If you're getting unwanted calls from your lender or a collection agency, don't stick your head in the sand - talk to your lender! Lenders are supposed to work with borrowers to resolve problems, and collection agencies have to follow certain rules. Ignoring bills or serious problems can lead to default, which has severe, long-term consequences (see tip 6 for more about default.)

4. Pick the Right Repayment Option: When your federal loans come due, your loan payments will automatically be based on a standard 10-year repayment plan. If the standard payment is going to be hard for you to cover, there are other options, and you can change plans down the line if you want or need to. Extending your repayment period beyond 10 years can lower your monthly payments, but you'll end up paying more interest - often a lot more - over the life of the loan. Some important options for student loan borrowers are income-driven repayment plans such as Income-Based Repayment and Pay As You Earn which cap your monthly payments at a reasonable percentage of your income each year, and forgive any debt remaining after no more than 25 years (depending on the plan) of affordable payments. Forgiveness may be available after just 10 years of these payments for borrowers in the public and nonprofit sectors (see tip 10 below). To find out more about Income-Based Repayment and related programs and how they might work for you, visit IBRinfo.org.

Private loans are not eligible for IBR or the other federal loan payment plans, deferments, forbearances, or forgiveness programs.  However, the lender may offer some type of forbearance, typically for a fee, or you may be able to make interest-only payments for some period of time. Read your original private loan paperwork carefully and then talk to the lender about what repayment options you may have.

5. Don't Panic: If you're having trouble making payments because of unemployment, health problems, or other unexpected financial challenges, remember that you have options for managing your federal student loans. There are legitimate ways to temporarily postpone your federal loan payments, such as deferments and forbearance. For example, an unemployment deferment might be the right choice for you if you're having trouble finding work right now. But beware: interest accrues on all types of loans during forbearances, and on some types of loans during deferment, increasing your total debt, so ask your lender about making interest-only payments if you can afford it.

If you expect your income to be lower than you'd hoped for more than a few months, check out Income-Based Repayment. Your required payment in IBR can be as little as $0 when your income is very low. See tip 4 for more about IBR and other repayment options.

6. Avoid Trouble! Ignoring your student loans has serious consequences that can last a lifetime. Not paying can lead to delinquency and default. For federal loans, default kicks in after nine months of non-payment. When you default, your total loan balance becomes due, your credit score is ruined, the total amount you owe increases dramatically, and the government can garnish your wages and seize your tax refunds if you default on a federal loan. For private loans, default can happen much more quickly and can put anyone who co-signed for your loan at risk as well. Talk to your lender right away if you're in danger of default. You can also find helpful information at studentloanborrowerassistance.org.

7. Prepay If You Can: If you can afford to pay more than your required monthly payment - every time or now and then - you can lower the amount of interest you have to pay over the life of the loan. To pay down your loan more quickly, make sure to include a written request to your lender specifying that the extra amount be applied to your loan balance, and continue making payments each month. Otherwise, your prepayment may automatically be credited to a future payment and you may not be billed for the next month.

8. Clear the Most Expensive Loans First: If you're considering paying off one or more of your loans ahead of schedule, start with the one that has the highest interest rate. If you have private loans in addition to federal loans, start with your private loans, since they almost always have higher interest rates and lack the flexible repayment options and other protections of federal loans.

9. To Consolidate or Not to Consolidate: A consolidation loan combines multiple loans into one for a single monthly payment and one fixed interest rate. If this is appealing, here are some pros and cons to consider. You can consolidate your federal student loans through the Direct Loan program, and this calculator can help you figure out what your interest rate would be. For private consolidation loans, shop around carefully for a low or fixed interest rate if you can find one, and read all the fine print. Never consolidate federal loans into a private student loan, or you'll lose all the repayment options and borrower benefits - like unemployment deferments and loan forgiveness programs - that come with federal loans!

10. Loan Forgiveness: There are various programs that will forgive all or some of your federal student loans if you work in certain fields or for certain types of employers. Public Service Loan Forgiveness is a federal program that forgives any student debt remaining after 10 years of qualifying payments for people in government, nonprofit, and other public service jobs. Find out more at IBRinfo.org. There are other federal loan forgiveness options available for teachers, nurses, AmeriCorps and PeaceCorps volunteers, and other professions, as well as some state, school, and private programs.

13-year-old girl raped by her pastor during night vigil

One Nzube Ohuama, a pastor with a new generation Pentecostal church in Onitsha, in Anambra State has been arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl during a vigil programme organised by the church. It was reported that Ohuama had earlier prophesied to the girl's parents three days before the incident that she had an evil spirit that was tormenting her and he had to conduct a special prayer for her at the programme. At about 1 am when the vigil was in top gear, the pastor called out the girl and told the congregation that he had a special assignment he needed to carry out on her alone and took her to the private room where he defiled her.

It was while he was at it that the girl's sister walked to the pastor's office and was surprised to hear her sister crying in pains. The victim came out with blood stains on her and after narrating what the pastor did to her, the victim's parents reported the incident to Fegge Police Station and Pastor Ohuama was promptly arrested.

Fox Announces The Return Of Prison Break

image

Prison Break is returning to Fox in 2016 as a 10-episode event series.
“It’s going to bring back both brothers, [played by] Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell,” Chairman and CEO Gary Newman announced at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills on Thursday.

Added Co-Chairman and CEO Dana Walden: “I would describe it as a bit of a sequel. It picks up the characters several years after we left them in the last season of the show. The brothers will be back. Some of the iconic characters from that show will be back. I don’t think [exec producer] Paul [Scheuring] knows exactly where he’s going over the 10-episode arc, but it definitely will address some questions that were set up at the end of the series for a new audience.
“This is the pure vision of the creator of the show,” Walden continued. “It’s going to take a little bit of a detour from where we left off [with the straight-to-DVD coda] , but it should feel very satisfying and event-ized. Fans will be excited about seeing these characters back together again.”
Regarding the fact that Miller’s Michael perished in 2009’s Prison Break: The Final Break, Newman quipped that that particular plot point would be “ignored,” while Walden explained, “What [Paul]  pitched to us was a very logical and believable — in the world of Prison Break — explanation for why our characters are alive and still moving around the world.”

The president gave the directive while receiving briefing from officials of the Aviation Ministry, led by the Permanent Secretary, Binta Bello, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Speaking with State House correspondents after the briefing, Bello
said  the president was worried about Nigeria not having a national air carrier and has given instruction for a new one to be established.
She also said the president was briefed on the challenges domestic airlines were facing in spite of Federal Government’s N300 billion intervention fund towards boosting their operations.
The airlines, she said, were hugely indebted to regulatory agencies under the Aviation Ministry, including other factors that have left some of the airlines still struggling to maintain optimum operational capabilities.
According to her, the four state-of-the-art terminals being constructed with Chinese Bank loan will be ready by the first quarter of next year.
She said the facilities under construction and expansion would be big and modern enough to accommodate large aircraft like the Airbus 380 aeroplanes as obtained in the largest international airports.
“The president has directed the Ministry to look into the possibility of having a national carrier as soon as possible,” she said
According to her, President Buhari has also ordered the take over of the nation’s airspace, over the Gulf of Guinea, from Ghana.
She said: “We have a directive by the president to start the process of securing management of Nigerian airspace over the Gulf of Guinea which Ghana has been maintaining since 1945 and there is a move on the ground by Togo and Republic of Benin to take over the management of their own airspace from Ghana.”
She reassured Nigerians and the international community that the nation’s airspace is safe and has just recorded a score of over 90 per cent by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO).

The petitioner, Sterling bank Plc, alleged that Momodu, a former staff of the bank, stole about N27m from the account of one of its customers. The accused allegedly forged the signature of the said account holder, and fraudulently withdrew the monies from the bank.
Investigations further revealed that the said amount was transferred to the Sterling Bank account of one Emilia Ugwandu, who is now at large, in a bid to hide the source of the stolen funds. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him

One of the counts reads, “that you Bawa Momodu, male, on or before the 17th day of December, 2012 in Port Harcourt, within the jurisdiction of this honorable court did present to officials of Sterling Bank Plc a forged Sterling Bank Fund Transfer document No. 1238802 in favor of Don Kumy Ventures Nigeria Limited, with the intent that Sterling Bank Plc may act upon it as genuine and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, Revised Edition, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria Act, 2007 and punishable under Section 1(2) of the same Act”.

In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, A. Olatunji asked for a date for the commencement of trial. However, the defence counsel, K. Allen Nwogwama prayed the court to grant his client bail. Justice Ekwo granted the accused person bail in the sum of Seven Million Naira (N7, 000,000.00), and one surety in like sum. The surety must be a responsible member of the society with landed property worth the bail sum, to be verified by the court registrar and the prosecution. The accused person is also to be reporting at the EFCC on the last day of every month.

In a related development, Justice Ekwo has ordered the remand of one Festus Agadi in prison custody till September 23, 2015, when his application for bail would be considered. Agadi was docked by the EFCC August 3, on a one count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence to the tune of N1,700,000.00 (One Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira). He pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him. The accused, an employee of Petra Services Limited, is alleged to have defrauded the company to the tune of N1, 700,000.00 (One Million Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) only on the pretext that the money was the cost price of a used Caterpillar Excavator Engine he has secured for the company.

The charge reads, “that you, Festus Agadi Orji on or about the 21st day May, 2015 at Sterling Bank Nigeria Plc, Artillery Branch, Port Harcourt within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court with intent to defraud did obtain the sum of N1, 700.000.00 (One Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) from Petra Services Limited which was paid into Black Duke Global Services Ltimited’s First Bank Account No. 2026661557 under the false pretence that the said sum of money was the purchase price of one (1) used Caterpillar Excavator Engine from Ibadan which you knew to be false and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 1 (1) (a) and punishable under Section 1 (3) of the Advance Fee Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006”.

(SEE PHOTOS) AMERICA BASE EVANGELICAL CHURCH ORDERS ALL MEMBERS TO WORSHIP IN THEIR NAKKEEDNESS

evangelical church the White Tail Chapel

A Virginia based evangelical church the White Tail Chapel generated a lot of media attention and condemnation when they introduced a new phenomenon to their Christian worship last year by asking its congregation to serve the Lord the way God created them by worshiping in the nu;de. The law was however not mandatory. In a shocking twist of event, One year on, the head pastor announced to his congregants Last Sunday that nu'dity is now mandatory in the church.Based in Ivor in the southern state of Virginia, the church asks all its worshippers to cast off all their material concerns including clothing when they come to worship.

White Tail describes itself as a family nu'dist community where visitors can enjoy all manner of activities, including spiritual worship, completely natural or nu;de. Church Canteen Justifying the church’s approach to faith, Pastor Allen Parker said that many of Jesus’ most important moments happened while he was na'ked. Recently, the church even conducted a marriage in the nud'e with couple Katie and Robert Church taking their vows in the nude. Pastor Parker said:

“When Jesus was born he was na'ked, when he was crucified he was nak'ed and when he arose he left his clothes in the tomb and he was nak'ed. If God made us that way, how can that be wrong? “I consider this a gift and a privilege God has given me as our members are caring, understanding and they’re community and family oriented. We have one of the most involved chapels anyplace around. I’ll put our church up against others around.” Robert Church also justified getting married in the nud'e, saying that White Tail Chapel lacks the pretence sometimes found at other places of worship. He added that nud'ity is a great equaliser as it becomes impossible to judge someone based on their expensive or shabby clothes if they are not wearing any.

The contractor handling the N9.2billion worth of clean cook stoves and wonder bags awarded by the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan has dragged the Federal Government to court. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Fatima Mede, disclosed this to State House correspondents on Tuesday shortly after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari of the ministry’s activities inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

Mede said the contractor approached the court to order the government not to terminate the contract following the emergence of the present administration. BULLET BOUNCES OFF ARMADILLO, HITS SHOOTER IN HEAD

A man in Texas tried to shoot an armadillo - only for the bullet to ricochet off its shell and hit him in the head.

Cass County Sheriff's officials told ABC's KTRE that they were investigating the shooting.
“His wife was in the house. He went outside and took his .38 revolver and shot three times at the armadillo,” Sheriff Larry Rowe said according to the UK's Independent.

It turns out that this armadillo are pretty good at dealing with this sort of nonsense - as it managed to deflect the bullet back to the gunman and hit him in the jaw.

The gunman was taken to a hospital in Texarkana, where his jaw had to be wired shut.
The fate of the armadillo meanwhile is unclear.

“We didn't find the armadillo,” the Sherrif Rowe said.

This isn't the first time a silly American brought a gun to an Armadillo fight, as TomoNews US on YouTube elaborates.

Governor Ambode goes tough on traffic robbers, street hawkers

Ambode goes tough on traffic robbers, street hawkers

Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday presided over the state security council meeting with a resolve to stop the menace of robbery in traffic in the state’s trouble spots. He promised to stop the activities of some persons posing as street hawkers to rob unsuspecting public.

Briefing reporters on the outcome of the meeting, Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni said the council looked at the security and crime situation in the past one month with a focus on the menace of street-trading, land-grabbers and other security issues.

“We looked at the areas, where we are winning and the areas, where we need to step up our activities. One of those areas we looked at critically was the issue of the guys that rob on the highway in the traffic. “We have taken a decision to do all what we can do to stop all the activities. First, to decongest the gridlock, because if we do that once traffic moves, we are going to take the street traders and hawkers off the road,” Owoseni said.

He added:
“Once we decongest, we would also reduce the incidence of people robbing motorists on the road and of course, the response time to distress call will be improved upon. Those are the things we looked at “The meeting also took the decision that we continue our onslaught against criminals, especially the land-grabbers, to make sure that they are brought to justice once they are arrested; diligent investigation and prosecution will be carried out to show examples to others.”

The police chief said the council also deliberated on the menace of cultists and added that efforts had been made jointly by security agencies within the last one month, to clamp down on them.

“We want to sustain the rate that we are carrying out at the black spots. We want to make sure that the issue of gangsterism and cultism are completely wiped out in the state,” he said.
On the resurgence of motorcycle operators, popularly called okada riders, the police commissioner said security agencies within the past one month raided some identified black spots. He said about 595 suspects were arrested during the raids, 400 prosecuted and 332 were convicted.
“We would not relent, we would continue on that onslaught to raid black spots to get rid of street-hawking and people who perpetrate crime in the state,” Owoseni said.

Politician Spotted Kneeling & Begging Another Politician (See Photos)

A well known Deltan politician and current chairman of sapele local Govt Area Chief Ejiafe Odebala was pictured kneeling and pleading in the house of fellow politician and current member of the senate house Hon Monday Igbuya.
This is apparently due to the impending impeachment which he is about to face..
See what Nigerian politics has been reduced to.

SAPELE/DELTA STATE MUST BETTER.
04/08/2015.
WETIN MAKE HON. ODEBALA EJAIFE KNEE DOWN DEY BEG RT. HON. MONDAY IGBUYA?
As long as Sapele and Delta State matter concern i nor go hide am from the public, becos unu be public servant and if anything dey happen among unu na our right to know. I thank God say fear don lost for where i dey since and if death go come for better reason to make sure say Sapele and Delta State better, then make e come becos people like Ken Sarowiwa, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Dele Giwa, Mko Abiola and my only mentor Late Nelson Madiba Mandela do more than this and today deir names dey books of freedom fighters. So if Sapele Okpe Kingdom fit kill deir King intentionally due to bad representation, maybe we need to make Innocent Human for Sacrifice to liberate the name Sapele becos Sapele na small place but the kind things wen dey happen for Sapele dey surprise me.
Sapele people make unu listen and make unu tell us who dey at fault for this matter.
Hon. Ejaife Odebala sidon e own,as he lost out of PDP Politics not only for Local Government but also for the State level. Former Governor of Delta State "His Excellency Emmanuel Uduaghan" hold Sapele and all other Local Government to hostage for years,as e nor gree conduct the Local Government Councils elections. Before he finally conduct the elections,Hon. Godwin Atose wen be d immediate past Chairman and others don dey warm up to contest for the elections and Hon. Godwin Atose don dey plan seriously to become the Chairman again at least to complete e second term and make amends for all where e for Bleep up,becos he almost use all e tenure as Chairman take drink for office, but Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya and Senator Ighoyota Amori wen go celebrate e birthday for Chicago recently single handedly hand pick Hon. Ejaife Odebala and dem make am renounce him former Party wen e run go and decamp to PDP for Ward4. Na dem Solomon Abeke,Alfred Akpeki and host of others nai accept Hon. Ejaife Odebala into the Party for grass root level.

Months later we begin see Hon. Ejaife Odebala posters to vie for Local Government Chairman, and during the elections report fly enter my ears say na N1Million nai Rt. Hon. Monday Igbuya count give Hon. Ejaife Odebala to use do e campaign to win e elections, and really Hon. Ejaife Odebala emerge the winner and e come become the Chairman of the Council.

Unu go agree with me before now say na Hon. Ejaife Odebala nai represent Sapele for House Of Assembly two times and according to history,e almost impeach James Ibori as a member of the House of Legislature and almost cut some parts of Sapele give Warri North after eguje enter e pocket. Due to say dis young Barrister wen nor gree practice due to Politics, nor want make any Sapele person run House of Assembly pass him wen come from Amukpe to represent Sapele and Igbuya wen nor dey hear word,to represent Sapele from Elume, report cum enter studio say the money wen State PDP bring come,to all Local Government wen reach Hon. Ejaife hand nor reach out to the purpose dem bring am for. Therefore speculations come dey spread follow the town say Hon. Ejaife Odebala work against the hands wen make am Local Government Council Chairman. With this many facebook accounts don dey paste say Hon. Micheal Diden don invite all the Council Councillors to vote Hon. Ejaife Odebala commot from Office. I disagree with that becos Ejele nor get the capacity to intervene for Sapele Politics becos nor be Sapele e dey represent for the House Of Assembly,so make e go him Warri North go play e politics and make e leave Sapele people alone to settle deir disputes.

As for wetin report carry say Hon. Ejaife Odebala do i cum dey doubt weda na truth becos i believe say Odebala suppose wise pass wetin i dey report so,but na the other side i cum dey see now.

My Papa wen don clock 102years tell me say if you buy small dog,na u dey direct the dog,but if you don feed the dog big well well, and u provoke the dog,the dog fit bite you. So wetin dey happen.
