Algeria bans Facebook and Twitter in an attempt to stop people cheating on exams

To stop cheating in upcoming school exams,Algeria has temporarily blocked Facebook and some other social media networks . The country has taken the decision to cut off access to social networks after papers and exam questions were leaked online. The government said that it had taken the decision so that people would no longer be able to share leaked papers.

 

In a statement on Sunday, the Ministry of Post and Information and Communication Technology said that the "cut of social networks has a direct relationship with the matriculation exams" which begin on Sunday.

It added that all other parts of the internet were not affected.

Schoolboy, 14, stepped in front of train after 'liaison with female student went viral(Photo)

A 14-year-old student died hours after knowledge of a "liaison" with a fellow pupil went viral around his school.
Matthew Brittan stepped in front of a passenger train on a crossing close to his home in Weston-super-Mare, north Somerset, having left his bicycle locked up nearby.
Avon Coroner's Court heard that a liaison the teenager had the previous day with a female student at Worle Community School had become common knowledge.

He died instantaneously from multiple injuries after stepping in front of the 4.07pm Taunton to Cardiff Great Western passenger service on the afternoon of February 1 this year,Daily Mirror reports.

Despite the train driver repeatedly sounding his horn and applying the emergency brakes he was unable to stop in time.

I've been pushed to the ground, had people go through my bag, or break my scooter when I rode it to school. Even people in other grades who I don't know do these things to me too.
Other people in my class throw things at me and film it on their phones. They tell me they're going to upload it to the net.
One boy continues to sexually harass me. He calls me rude sexual names and spreads rumors about me which I can't post here because they are too sexual. He follows me around and laughs at me that I do all kinds of sexual things which I don't.
I have told teachers many times, my mum has called the school, and I have had school meetings. None of this is helping. I've been told to just ignore these people, but I can't take it anymore. I don't know what else to do or where else to go for help.
My life is hell. I only beg for you to please sign my petition to ask Dysart State High School to take a stronger stance against bullying and for the Government to stop the school getting away with this.

Police escort student out of graduation for wearing Kente cloth(Photo)

An 18-year-old Black student was removed from graduation after he refused to take off his kente cloth. Nyree Holmes who attended the predominately white Cosumnes Oaks High School in Elk Grove, California, shared the story after he was escorted out from Sleep Train Arena by three Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department officers.

He tells Atlanta Black Star it was important for him to wear the traditional African print because as a “descendant of slaves, I have no firm connection to my roots in Africa.”

“I wanted to wear my kente cloth as a representation of my pride in my ancestors, to display my cultural and religious heritage,” he continues. “As my particular cloth was made by Christians in Ghana, where the kente cloth has been worn by royalty and during important ceremonies for hundreds if not thousands of years.”

The graduate says his parents were shocked the school had police remove him from the ceremony, adding he was greeted with a mix of positive and negative reactions on Twitter.

“I have received a lot of support and outrage from fellow minorities as well as white people, who see the infringement upon my freedom of expression as appaling and shocking,” he tells ABS. “I have also heard of some rumblings within the school of objection as to how I responded on Twitter, especially my tweet that reached over ten-thousand people, explicitly stating “f—- Cosumnes Oaks High School.”

He later deleted the tweet.
As far as future plans, Holmes will attend California State University, Fullerton this fall. He will major in cinema arts “to achieve my dream of becoming an impactful film director.”

Stephanie Akpapuna makes history as 3rd sister named valedictorian at Dillard University

A Nigerian woman is following her two older sisters as valedictorian at Dillard University in New Orleans. Stephanie Akpapuna, a Theatre Arts major from Lagos, Nigeria, has been named valedictorian of the Dillard University Class of 2016. Akpapuna will deliver the valedictory address at Dillard’s Commencement exercise on Saturday, May 7. Dillard is the famous, private, historically black liberal arts university in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States

Akpapuna is part of a very unique family tradition at Dillard University. Both of her older sisters, Jennifer, was valedictorian in 2004, and their sister, Merrilyn, was valedictorian in 2014.

A graduate of Reagan Memorial Baptist Girls Secondary School in Lagos, Nigeria, she is the daughter of Dr. Emmanuel and Rita Akpapuna.

 "I’m proud and humbled by the fact that I could do my sisters proud and also keep the legacy they started going," said Akpapuna.

"Dillard has been a wonderful experience. I’ve enjoyed my stay here and I’ve learned so much. I would have been a number somewhere else, but at Dillard you are treated as an individual. Here we’re so family oriented and it’s great to have that."

After graduation, she will attend Carnegie Mellon University where she will pursue her Master of Fine Arts in stage and production management.

Akpapuna has been named a Presidential Scholar and is a recipient of the Humanities Talent Scholarship, the Ray Charles Scholarship as well as the Denzel & Pauletta Washington Scholarship.

She is a member of the Dean’s list and has been inducted into Alpha Kappa Mu National Honor Society and Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society. Akpapuna is also a participant in the Daniel C. Thompson/Samuel DuBois Cook Honors Program.
