Verify Your Exemption Certificates: NYSC Captures 7 For Buying Fake Exclusion Certificates

Following the spate of illegal certificates alleged to have been issued by its office and the arrest of seven culprits for allegedly purchasing fake exemption and exclusion certificates of the Scheme, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on employers of labour to always verify certificates to ascertain their authenticity.

Speaking with newsmen in Abuja on Friday, the Director, Certification, Alhaji Hudu Aliyu Taura, said the suspects, who claimed to be graduates from various institutions, were detected through the certificates sent to the organization by their employers for verification.

He said that the organisation detected 17 fake certificates of exemption when the management of the Guaranty Trust Bank (GBT) brought some certificates of their employees to NYSC for verification.

According to him, the owners of those certificates were invited to come for proper verification but out of the 17 invited only seven responded.

He said out of the seven only four culprits were being presented because three of them also absconded.

Speaking with the culprits, he said they confessed to have gotten the certificates from other sources, adding that they paid certain amount of money to get them.

Tara, who denied the involvement of any staff of the scheme in the act, revealed that the management have compiled the report with their written statement which would be handed over to the security personnel for further necessary actions.

While appealing to other employers of labour to forward their employees certificates claimed to be issued by the NYSC for verification, the Director also urged them to always contact NYSC with the certificates during recruitment exercises to ensure their genuineness.
